The Porsche 911 (997.1) GT3 RS, produced from 2006 to 2008, is a high-performance variant of the iconic 911, blending track-oriented engineering with road-going usability. It features lightweight components, including a polycarbonate rear window and minimal sound insulation, bringing the overall weight down to around 1,430 kg (3,150 lbs). The car includes a prominent rear wing and front splitter, which contribute to increased downforce at high speeds. The wing, adjustable in height and angle, helps stabilize the car during aggressive cornering.
The 997.1 GT3 RS is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine, producing approximately 415 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It features a high-revving design, reaching up to 8,400 RPM. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, emphasizing driver engagement and control.
The GT3 RS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in about 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of around 190 mph (305 km/h). It also features a stiffer suspension setup compared to the standard GT3, with upgraded shock absorbers and springs, improving handling on the track. Inside, the GT3 RS emphasizes a driver-centric layout, with lightweight bucket seats and minimalistic controls. The interior is stripped of excess luxury, focusing instead on performance. While lacking some modern conveniences, the car does include essential features like air conditioning and a basic sound system, balancing comfort with its track-oriented purpose.
